Development Core
The Developmental Core (DC) contributes to SoCa’s mission to reduce cancer rates in areas of persistent poverty in the New York City Region by helping early stage career investigators develop new pilot research projects, and successfully compete for K and R-level grant mechanisms. The DC works with the CEC and RMC to achieve these aims.
The DC’s aims can be summarized as Establish, Enhance, and Oversee.
OUR AIMS:
-
The DC has will help junior researchers establish themselves by creating a SoCa pilot program to fund cancer research pilot projects every year.
Each year we award eligible researchers funding for qualified pilot projects. Please see the Pilot Funding tab for more information.
-
The DC enhances collaboration between cancer researchers across all of SoCa's institutions by developing the SoCa Hub.
The SoCa Hub is a private* blog space where SoCa program participants and alumni are encouraged to share resources and foster a community amongst themselves: Click here to log-in to the SoCa Hub
*Access to the SoCa Hub is exclusive to SoCa program participants and alumni.
-
The DC oversees the future progress of junior researchers who received pilot program funding by hosting Mock Study Sections.
The Mock Study Sections will convene NIH-funded PIs from across the country to conduct NIH-level reviews for SoCa's pilot program participants. These PIs will provide feedback for the SoCa pilot program participants' R and/or K grant submissions.
