11th Annual Cancer Health Promotion Symposium

On March 13th SUNY Downstate held its 11th Annual Cancer Health Promotion Symposium. The event was sponsored by the Department of Medicine/Division of Gastroenterology and the Brooklyn Health Promotion Center together with Cold Spring Harbor Laboratory. SoCa’s very own Dr. Mary Beth Terry gave the keynote speech Cascade Prevention and Community Action to Reduce the Cancer Burden.

The event was broken out into three sessions, with each session covering a different theme:

  1. Session 1: Pre-cancers and early detection screening tools for colorectal, breast and cervical cancers, and the use of blood tests for cancer detection.

  2. Session 2: Cancer risk reduction with an introduction to cancer genetics.

  3. Session 3: Flash Science talks (trainees gave short talks about their research and then took questions from the audience).
