SoCa Spotlight: Dr. Shadi Azam and ASPO 2025

In April 2025 the American Society of Preventive Oncology held its annual conference in Philadelphia. ASPO’s annual conferences provide opportunities for researchers, epidemiologists, clinicians, patient advocates, and trainees to gather and collaborate. This year’s theme was advancements in cancer prevention research methods. SoCa’s very own Dr. Shadi Azam not only attended the conference, but also presented a poster on her project Racial Disparities and Time to Breast Cancer Surgery.

Dr. Azam is a breast cancer researcher and epidemiologist with a focus of mammographic features including mammographic density, mammographic microcalcifications, and masses at Weill Cornell Medicine. Dr. Azam joined SoCa via the Year 3 Pilot Funding Program in the Spring of 2025. She was selected for the 2025 Outstanding Poster Award by the Disparities and Survivorship Special Interest Group for her study titled “The Impact of Social Drivers of Health on Delayed Time to Breast Cancer Surgery”.  Dr. Azam was also selected for the ASPO 2025 New Investigators Workshop, a competitive program that recruits pre- and post-doctoral investigators conducting research in preventive oncology.

Congratulations

Dr. Azam!
